What is a print?
'At its simplest a print is a picture of which more than one copy exists. A painting is a one-off created by hand, whereas prints are usually multiples. ... There are many different types of print, some produced manually while others are made by automated printing processes.'
This is a deceptively simple description! In practice, it involves much effort and often frustration. And - as the video shows - a lot of physical effort involved. The results aren't always what we expect. However, with a little perseverance, beautiful things happen!
In our workshops, we encourage lots of experimentation, mistake-making and risk-taking! These are small groups so there's lots of one-to-one tuition. They are great opportunities to learn new skills and make new friends too. We offer one-day workshops or short courses of about 4 weeks. There's plenty to choose from and they're suitable for all abilities. Why not email us for more details or a chat, using the contact form in our Further Information section?

There are several printmaking methods in use, mainly relief (lino & woodcut), Intaglio (drypoint, collagraph & etching), Planographic ( litho & monorint) and Silk Screen. We use mainly relief, intaglio & screen in our workshops. Several methods can be used at home and do not require a press.
