More than a book...

I'm a print maker, lecturing for more than twenty-five years.   I also make books, which extends the possibilities of the printed image.     Why not have an object that is useful as well as beautiful?     Why not have a unique print that you can take with you?       PrintUrchin Press has its roots in bookbinding, art and a love of drawing, painting & writing, we work with environmentally friendly, high quality materials and a design language focused on timelessness.  Our book papers and book blocks are all hand cut and sewn without guillotining and we print each metre of book cloth & decorative paper with original lino prints & woodcuts from our collections.   Using only the finest papers for our books, we constantly outsource smaller artisan producers for exclusive decorated papers & bookcloths.  Our books are made to be used,  so the ideal paper is durable, strong & flexible.  Our more expensive editions are, therefore, made of 80 - 100% cotton whose long fibres intertwine to produce exceptional strength.

Located in Cardiff Bay, we regularly run hands-on print workshops in artisan book binding, relief woodcut, lino print, dry-point etching and intaglio collagraph. One of our main aims is to share the practice of printmaking with the wider local community and to support artistic excellence in the medium of print through inspiration, education, innovation and facilitation. We work at the cutting edge of contemporary visual art, producing engaging artwork that is key to the cultural life of Cardiff and regularly run classes for all ages and abilities.

NB. Until Covid19 restrictions are eased, we have taken the difficult decision to suspend all classes until March next year.  If you would like to stay updated and are interested in either the Printmaking or Bookbinding courses, please email us using the form below.
Each piece of bookcloth or cover paper is hand printed with designs from our original print collection. We use hand-carved lino or wood blocks and Caligo Cranfield Inks.

We run hands-on print workshops for beginners & intermediate levels in artisan book binding, relief woodcut, lino print, dry-point etching and intaglio collagraph.  We also run book-binding courses. Day-workshops and weekly classes are available throughout the year. If you'd like to stay up-to-date with our community, please join our emailing list below.
